Multidisciplinary approaches to well-being. Analyses and impact policies
Special session, Iasi, Romania, 16-17 May 2025
Chairs: Ramona Tiganasu, Peter Nijkamp, Mihaela Clincu
The growing interest in moving well-being understanding “beyond GDP”, reflects a shift toward policies that prioritize a sustainable
multidimensional approach that considers economic, natural, and social systems (OECD, 2024). Researches indicate that well-being is
closely tied to local conditions and changes over time.
This special session is dedicated to well-being and highlights the need for interdisciplinary perspectives to assess and integrate it in various
policies. Within the session we aim to explore diverse ways of shaping well-being by examining its determinants, spatial inequalities,
natural capital, and socio-economic dynamics. Futhermore, this session intends to advance discussions on how different places, people
and policies interfere to create more inclusive and sustainable well-being outcomes as a challenge to conventional growth models.
We welcome contributions that explore the dimensions of well-being, including (but not limited to) topics such as:
- New approaches to sustainable well-being;
- The role of economic factors in shaping well-being;
- The relationship between social capital and well-being;
- The impact of governance and institutions in developing policies for a better life;
- The environment and well-being;
- Current geopolitical contexts and their implications for well-being;
- The welfare state and the quality of life;
- Comparative analyses of well-being at European Union level;
- Well-being measurement;
- Case studies related to well-being;
- Others.
This session aims to bring together young and experienced researchers to deepen the knowledge on well-being and to foster dialogue on
new approaches for more sustainable policies.
